3 Types of Facelifts to Consider

3 Types of Facelifts to Consider

You can choose from many noninvasive cosmetic procedures that do a remarkable job of tightening skin and smoothing wrinkles. But their results are temporary.

When you’re ready to reverse aging and have long-lasting results, it’s time to consider a traditional facelift or one of several facelift options. Facelifts produce exceptional results when performed by a skilled plastic surgeon like Rafael C. Cabrera, MD, FACS, at Plastic Surgery Specialists of Boca Raton

Dr. Cabrera combines extensive experience — including developing a unique facelift technique, The SmarterLift™ — with artistic sensitivity to restore a vibrant, youthful appearance no matter which procedure you choose.

1. Traditional facelift

A traditional facelift is the procedure most people envision when they consider plastic surgery. This surgery covers the area from your eyes to your neck.

This type of facelift produces long-lasting results because we tighten and repair the underlying muscles, creating a strong, lifted structure to support your new appearance.

We remove excess fat, paying particular attention to areas where it accumulates as you age. Repositioning remaining fat restores natural fullness, eliminates issues like hollow cheeks, and improves facial contours.

If you don’t have enough facial fat, we may recommend fat grafting, taking excess fat from your body and using it to cushion your face. However, we will discuss that possibility during your consultation.

For the final step, we eliminate excess skin and artistically replace the skin over your newly tightened and lifted face.

2. Mini-facelift or full facelift plus add-on procedures

A facelift doesn’t necessarily address all the aspects of your appearance that you may want to change. Many patients decide to have additional procedures simultaneously with their facelift, allowing them to achieve all of their aesthetic goals with one surgery and recovery period.

Alternatively, you may want a mini-facelift if you only need to improve one problem area in the lower third of your face.

Here’s a rundown of your procedure choices:

Forehead lift (brow lift)

A brow lift reduces horizontal wrinkles on the forehead and the bridge of your nose, between the eyes. We also raise sagging eyebrows and improve the frown line between the eyebrows.

Eyelid lift (blepharoplasty)

Eyelid surgery targets your upper lids, lower lids, or both. We remove excess fat, muscle, and skin in the upper and/or lower eyelids. In the upper eyelid, we eliminate tissues sagging over your eyes. Your eyelid procedure also takes care of fatty deposits and bags under the eyes.

Neck lift (lower rhytidectomy)

Dr. Cabrera frequently performs a neck lift at the same time as a facelift because he can use the same incision to remove and tighten neck skin. However, he uses an additional incision to remove extra fat.

A full neck lift smooths away jowls and minimizes muscle banding, which is those prominent muscle bands running vertically down both sides of the neck.

Mini-facelift

A mini-facelift also removes excess skin and fat. However, it only targets your chin, jawline, or jowls and doesn’t go deep to tighten the underlying muscles.

3. The SmarterLift™

We created The SmarterLift for people who don’t need a complete facelift. The SmarterLift delivers results similar to a facelift or neck lift but cuts the time in surgery and recovery in half compared to a traditional facelift.

Instead of general anesthesia, we give you local anesthesia and light sedation. Then, we can lift your cheeks, jawline, jowls, and neck, refine facial contours, and define your features.

Most people can look forward to results lasting at least 10 years, depending on their age at the time of the facelift and their skin care regimen.
