Summer Sun Care Tips
June 14, 2017
According to sources, the majority of visible signs of aging on the skin are caused by sun exposure. While it’s impossible to avoid the sun altogether, there are several ways you can minimize the effect it has on your skin. In this blog post, the Florida skincare specialists at Plastic Surgery Specialists of Boca Raton share several sun care tips for the summer season.
Use Sunscreen with SPF 30
Wearing sunscreen is one of the easiest and most effective ways you can protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Sunscreen with a sun protection factor of 30 blocks out 97 percent of the sun’s rays. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends everyone wear broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Remember, the lips, hands and scalp are also susceptible to sun damage. Be sure to apply a lip balm with an SPF of at least 15 and apply sunscreen to your hands and hair part. Reapply sunscreen every two hours or so.
Wearing sunglasses helps protect the delicate skin around the eyes from the sun. Overexposure to the sun can quickly lead to fine lines, brown spots and crow’s feet around the eyes. We recommend wearing wrap-around sunglasses to help avoid the sun’s rays from reaching your eyes. Wearing a wide-brimmed hat also helps shield the eyes from the sun.
Choose the Right Skin Care Products
Everyone’s skin is unique, so the skin care products that your best friend uses may not work well for you. When buying skin products, be sure to take your skin type into consideration (e.g., acne-prone, oily or dry). Medical-grade products contain ingredients like salicylic acids that nourish and replenish damaged skin. If you’re searching for new skin care products, our team can help you choose the right ones depending on your skin type, needs and goals.
Consider a Skin Rejuvenation Treatment
Do you have extensive areas of sun damage and dead skin buildup? You may be in need of professional intervention. The Plastic Surgery Specialists of Boca Raton offer an array of skin care treatments, including chemical peels and dermabrasion, to renew and refresh the skin. Our team can meet with you to assess your skin damage and determine which treatment plan is best for you.
