Preparing for Breast Augmentation
October 12, 2017
The weeks leading up to breast augmentation in Boca Raton are exciting. You might be spending a lot of time thinking about how big and sexy your breasts will look after surgery. Perhaps you have even picked out some new bras or bathing suit tops already! You may also feel some nerves when you think about the surgery.
In all the excitement, don’t forget to take the necessary steps to prepare for surgery. The team at the Plastic Surgery Specialists of Boca Raton will give you detailed instructions for prepping for surgery. They may include the following:
Stop Taking Certain Medications
During your consultation, you will need to supply us with a list of all prescription medications, vitamins and supplements you currently take. You may need to stop taking some of these medications a few weeks ahead of time because they could raise the surgical risks or affect your healing. You should also avoid aspirin and other medications that can thin your blood. Follow your instructions as provided by our team.
Do Not Smoke
Smoking dramatically increases the risks of surgery and should be avoided for several weeks prior to surgery. If you need to, work with your primary care physician on a cessation plan to ensure you quit for the weeks prior to and after your surgery.
Ask Women Who Have Had Surgery for Tips
If you know other women that have had breast augmentation surgery and are willing to talk about it, ask them about their toughest times of recovery and whether they have any tips for you.
Make Arrangements for the Day of Surgery
Plan to dress in comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and a top that zips or buttons in the front. Make sure to bring your ID, insurance card and any other necessary paperwork to the surgery center. You will need someone to drive you to and from the surgery center and stay with you the first night after surgery, so ask a loved one in advance. Also, you will probably be a little groggy after surgery, so make arrangements for someone to take care of children or pets.
Prepare for Recovery
Prep to make your recovery a stress-free time. Arrange for child and pet care as needed. Fill prescriptions and run other errands ahead of time. Stock your fridge with healthy, easy to prepare meals and do laundry so you have fresh linens. Create a Netflix queue, borrow books from the library or download podcasts to keep you occupied during your recovery.
The Night before Surgery
On the night before surgery, eat a light meal (no spicy foods) and don’t have alcohol. Don’t eat or drink anything after midnight. Try to get a good night’s rest and don’t stress about the surgery. You are in great hands with our team!
